Landmark World Missions (LWM) was formed as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation connected to the work of Landmark Tabernacle in McGaheysville, Virginia, for the purpose of furthering the work of Christ in foreign lands. Through the years, many have partnered with LWM through donations, labor, and prayer to bring the work to where it is today. LWM is of the holiness and classical Pentecostal persuasion, being fundamental in doctrine and practice. Some of the more prominent truths that we believe and seek to promote are the sufficiency of Christ, the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture, a triune God (one God existing in three persons), holiness as God’s standard of living for His people, the Spirit-filled experience and lifestyle, and the second coming of Christ.
Landmark’s mission work began in Tanzania, Africa through contacts made by the late Pastor Keith Powers. While preaching a revival in Jacksonville, Florida, Pastor Powers was approached by an African gentleman requesting that Powers come to Tanzania and help his uncle, Pastor Elihuruma Kombe. After a series of providential events, Pastor Powers traveled to Tanzania and met Pastor Kombe.
Pastor Kombe had been preaching the gospel in Tanzania for many years and praying for a friend who would come and help him in the work. Pastor Powers and LWM was an answer to that prayer. Resources are limited in Tanzania and God used Pastor Powers and many from America who would partner with him to provide resources and help for the African brethren. From humble beginnings the work has grown and expanded to various parts of the country of Tanzania. Several church buildings have been built and new churches have been planted. The gospel has been preached to many and many hearts have turned to the Lord. For several years, LWM has conducted an annual pastors’ conference to train and encourage the various pastors of the new and existing churches. Bibles are purchased regularly and distributed in the Kiswahili and Maasai languages. In 2002, five plus acres were purchased in Moshi, Tanzania to establish an orphanage. Since then, the orphanage has ministered to several orphans and is presently the primary focus of LWM ministry. There are plans to expand the orphanage and continue the work of building churches in Tanzania for the glory of God.
LWM is governed by a board of directors who work as a team to direct the organization. We believe in financial accountability and transparency. All donations are received with thanksgiving and are directed where the donor specifies. Donors receive an annual report of their giving as well as a financial report of LWM activity. We take seriously our responsibility before God to be faithful stewards of the goods He provides.
God has done amazing things through the years, providing resources, guidance, power, and grace to persevere. We believe the work has been fruitful for the kingdom of God and we desire that it produce even more fruit that Christ may be honored, and the church edified.
